Oldschool Picture-in-Picture – Take II
Here’s a different take (using different gear and shot parameters) on my Central Park Painting shot from a few days ago. I actually took about 30 or so variants.
I’m not sure which I prefer, but I sort of wish I had gotten just a little bit more bokeh here, as I feel that the previous version better matched the etherealness of the painting.

More bokeh? Step back a bit and use all 75mm
@XtremePsionic - Haha, that’s always an option. But I think the bokeh characteristics of the 70-200/4L are quite a bit better in general, regardless of amount here. The more I look at it, the more I prefer the version I shot with that lens. Come to think of it, my Sigmalux 50.4 would have been great here.
Pretty! I also went to check your previous post, but can’t really pick the winner.
i can’t really pick a better one either–i like both! it seems like you’ve captured something i rarely see anymore. setting up at the scene and painting it. wonderful.
It’s a tough call. They are different. This one seems to stand being viewed from arm’s length (or more) better … her box of paints (and her butt) doesn’t compete for attention with the rest quite as much, but then the painting is smaller, too.
@Yohannis - The analog version of our artform?
@n_e_i_l - Thanks again for giving me the urge to try a different version
@justpixels - bingo
